How does it feel to be one of the beautiful people?
Song of the Day #38
My favourite Beatles song - period
Unlikely and unrepeatable lyrics that could only have been written by John. Interestingly only Paul and John played on it (tbh the lead guitar is a little pedestrian) Macca wrote the middle section as Lennon couldn't come up with one. I think this might possibly be the last time they really "wrote" together, may be wrong, but at least they sound like thy were enjoying being in the same room - which was rare round that time.
Song of the day ~9
This is a much forgotten Lennon tune and I'm never sure why. It really doesn't make easy listening as he brutally dismisses the some of the most powerful forces in human history including "I don't believe in Beatles" which given the context is the hardest to hear. This is Lennon telling everyone to back off and let him and Yoko to get on with their lives, it is then ironic that this song makes you want to get even nearer to him. It's also a big move away from the versebridgechorus structure which he built his career on and has three very distinct sections that don't repeat which really adds to the uncomfortable feel in the song.
The video is from a film unimaginatively titled "Imagine" that if you even like the Beatles a little bit you MUST see - http://www.amazon.com/Imagine-Deluxe-John-Lennon/dp/B000AYELY2
This film is enough to drive a hormonal teenager to tears (or a nostalgic 32 year old ex rocker for that matter)
